The Victorian Government, led by the Department of Planning and Community Development, is working in partnership with the Hume City Council to prepare a Structure Plan for the Broadmeadows Activities Area. The Structure Plan will guide future growth and development around central Broadmeadows over the next 20 years and beyond.
The Planning4broadmeadows website was developed to encourage wider community, business and organisation participation in the Broadmeadows Structure Planning process. Feedback is currently being sought specifically on the Draft Broadmeadows Structure Plan. Related materials including the document itself are available in the Resources Library.
Broadmeadows Activities Area is set to become Melbourne's capital of the north over the next 20-30 years. It will be a regional hub for offices and services, supported by a mix of retail, leisure and transport facilities to accommodate a growing population.
This investment will help Broadmeadows Activities Area reach its potential and become the "Capital of the North" and a vibrant centre of community activity where people can live and work.
Broadmeadows is one of the designated Central Activities Areas within metropolitan Melbourne and will be the focus of a substantial share of future employment growth and investment. Over time the Broadmeadows Activities Area will offer complementary services to central Melbourne - like a mini-CBD in the northern suburbs.
Broadmeadows Activities Area will support the growth and development of the Hume Employment Corridor and Growth Area.
The Victorian Government's investment in Broadmeadows Activities Area, together with that of the Hume City Council, aims to provide:
- more affordable housing and increased access to employment and educational opportunities
- a thriving local economy in a regenerated urban centre through increased investment and retail opportunities
- a more sustainable and efficient use of land by unlocking the development potential of underutilised land through private investment
- improvements to the capacity, amenity and integration of public transport, walking and cycling, to create a better connected and pedestrian friendly city
- increased investment facilitation and planning certainty through the introduction of an Activity Centre Zone.
